Who Was President Herbert Hoover?
Famous Quote
"The lesson should be constantly enforced that though the people support the government, the government should not support the people."(Danzer et al) Conservative Philosophy
President Herbert Hoover was famous for his Laissez Faire approach in the government. Apposed to FDR's approach for the government, Hoover believed that the government should not support the people, but instead receive help from the people. This Laissez Faire philosophy as well as his Rugged Individualism government style both helped to make the Great Depression last as long as it did, and have it adversely affect as many people as it did. |
Laissez "Failure"
Hoover was well known for his belief had Americans should care for themselves individually, and either become rich or fail miserably all by themselves without aid from the government; commonly know as Laissez Faire. Based solely on his belief, president Hoover would have been the best president in American History, however he was quite the oppisite. Hoover was one of the most inactive presidents and he was the cause of the Great Depression being so great. His plan to save the country from the depression was to give "money t corporations" in hope that it will "trickle down into the lower classes" when in reality it just made the rich richer, and the poor poorer. Hoover was a failure in |
terms of taking care of his people. He was the cause of the severity of the Great Depression, and his inactivity cause Hoovervilles to sprout up all over the nation. Herbert Hoover was a very ineffective president, and when FDR was elected next president in 1933, it was for the best of America.
